like paul said, i love my hurst, look and feel. Vibration bugs me, but if you just hold the shifter, it doesnt rattle.

on a side note i never noticed this problem to begin with. I was able to powershift with the stock shifter.... so i dunno.

I know exactly what you're talking about... it seems like it sticks and you have to pull really hard to go into 2nd. And at higher RPM's trying to slam gears it does seem much harder! I've heard nothing but good about the Hurst shifter! I like the classic white ball but if anyone knows where I can get a 4.0L shifter that fits the stock *** (by Hurst of course) that would kick soooo much @$$... I've tried looking online and all I can find that fit the stock *** are for the GT's.

I notice the same thing when I shift from 2nd to 3rd mostly also when I try to go from reverse to 1st gear. I think its pretty strange. Any concensus to why this is happening ?

this happens because of the poor design of our synchronisers in the transmisson.. you will slide on to the synchro first, then it will take a split moment before the shift sleeve will slide over the dog teeth that make up our next gear. cars usually get like this with a lot of milage, but its our synchro design dont think it will wear out sooner because of it though.. our synchros are madeof a stronger material and will last a lifetime as long asyou dont grind those gears

in school, the first thing they tought us about manuals was to not worry about the notchy shift

stupid questions here. Ok i have grinded the gears like 3 times. It was real quick, Just wondered if that hurts the tranny. Also does it cause stress on the motor or tranny to drive between 2k to 4k rpm range? thanks

I installed the HURST shifter and I love it! The shifts are short, sweet and all there, and I replaced it because of the same reasons all have posted.
The 2 - 3 upshift was very difficult and the 4-5 upshift also, the shifter eliminated alot of the slop of the oem shifter and made missed shifts to me anyways a thing of the past. The syncros are much to be desired, this is not a BW T-10 or a M 22 crashbox! It has its limitations but for the powerplant it drives its ok. Also the clutch shift combo with the HURST took a little to adjust but oh what fun!!!!
The shifting at redline sometimes into 5th breaks my ***** but im going fast enough that double clutching does work for me, (fast enough means over 90-100 mph).
These are my experiences with the shifter tranny combo.
Many years ago I used to rebuild trannys for a living and ran the shop, so my comments are based on muscle cars I worked on in days of the future past.[sm=icon_rock.gif]
