Default WTF are those thingymabobs?

you know, the light on the ceiling, on the side of its housing, the holes on each side. are they light sensors or something?

I was told they were sensors in the car for the airbags. They measure how far away you are from the steering wheel or dash and by that judge how far to deploy the airbag. So yeah, thats what i was told by the main tech at my dealership

The driver's side airbag is a dual stage version. The deployment is based on the seat position, but the sensor for that is in the seat track. That "main tech" might want to read the owner's manual some time
