I'd be curious to see how this works out, I've been going nuts trying to figure out how to get the exact color wheels I want (I'm trying to color match my stripes, wheels and billet grille to the same gunmetal grey color).
Definitely let us know how this turns out if you decide to do this!!!

Oh I am going to try it because if the worst happens and it looks like *** then I am out maybe 50 dollars and have to get the black rims anyway.

I wonder how this would work doing part of a wheel....like the recessed part in some of the wheels available....

I've painted car and motorcycle wheels using rattle cars before with no problems at all. Prep is the important part, you've got to get the surface really, really clean and properly primed. You're just painting the surfaces that are already painted, right? Changing the color? You don't want to paint over polished and clearcoated surfaces, nor do you want to paint the rim (the perimeter lip). If you get your tires changed, the machine will rip all that rim paint right off.

I just talked to my buddy who is a painter at a local dealership, and he said this stuff should work just fine, provided you are repainting a wheel that has already been painted. If you are trying to paint raw metal, you would need to use what's called an acid-etching primer to ensure that the paint will adhere to the metal properly. Otherwise, the paint will not stick completely and will eventually flake off, even if it is sanded and prepped. The acid etching provides a secure hold for the primer, and the primer provides a secure hold for the paint.
If the wheel has already been painted, it has already been acid-etch primed.

What color are you thinking of? If you are thinking of white it has already been done. Search google for white bullit rim and you will get it!
