I read that also, I have no problems with my wifes explorer 4.0 which is an 02. I bought the stang and trust the engine. C&D lean more towards rice and cream on anything Yota

Treat it right, enjoy it and do the scheduled maint and you should have a great car and motor for a long time. Enjoy what you have and don't worry about the Anti American Bias.

I'd rather push my Mustang than drive a Jap piece of crap. Our cars ARE cool!! Change your oil and do your maintenance and it will last. My 1981 Ford F-100 just hit 287,000 miles. Never been rebuilt. Just had it smogged and it doesnt even burn oil!! Take care of your car and it will take care of you!! My two cents.

I had alot of good experiences with Ford Engines in a 89 Tempo in which the engine was still good when I got rid of it, and 92 Escort which still runs. THose were different times though, how will the 2006 hold up, time will tell but I'm confident it will. However I had a 99 Camry and the engine died in Feb. 2006 and needed to be replaced so I got a Mustang instead......

The 4.0L motor has seen use in Rangers and Explorers for years, and Explorers are everywhere!!!! Sure, when the 4.0 first came out, it had some issues, but its a seasoned platform now.
+1 the 4.0 is a proven engine. I wouldn't worry too much about it. I have never heard of anyone having any problems with the "reliability" of those engines.

Also if it makes you feel better the new Consumer Reports auto addition ranks the Mustang as a recommended buy. I trust their eval's more than C&D.

Car and Driver said the GT500 was a heavy slug that handled poorly (or so I've heard)
They are biased morons.

And the jap cars, like the Civic SI, they rev like bastards, their all top end power, and they've got VTEC (which really does work well)
And I may be mistaken, but the SI is a much higher compression engine, so yes, with all these factors, they can make power...
And their peak hp is near redline....Most drivers are too afraid to take their cars to redline...Our power is much lower in the powerband..

I just traded my 04 Nissan Maxima for a 06 mustang V6 and let me tell you one thing It runs much better than the maxima. I have put in about 1000 miles on the mustang now and am just waiting to stop on a redlight next to a maxima and well you all know what happens next.

As far as I'm aware the maximas with a 3.5L v6 have 55 more HP than the 4.0L v6. How this is possible I do not know, the japanese are keen for making tiny engines produce tons of horsepower.
