RE: Fusion
Personally, gas prices was the last thing I was thinking about when I bought my Mustang. Compared to the cost of the car and insurance it was an insignificant expense, and a small price to pay for driving a nice vehicle.
If money really is tight and you really are considering a Fusion, have you considered a Focus or Civic? Those would save you even more money. Even a Fusion would feel slow compared to your V6 Stang.

RE: Fusion
Have you driven a V6 Fusion..lately?
For those that haven't, go try one out. They actually have more hp than the V6 Mustang.
Fusion V6
Engine Type Duratec 24V V6
Engine Electronics EEC-V
Displacement 3.0L (182 cu. in.)
Horsepower (SAE net @ rpm) 221 @ 6250
Torque (lb.-ft. @ rpm) 205 @ 4800
Mustang V6
Engine Type 4.0L SOHC 12V V6
Engine Electronics EEV-V
Displacement 4.0L (245 cu. in.)
Horsepower (SAE net @ rpm) 210 @ 5250
Torque (lb.-ft. @ rpm) 240 @ 3500
The Mustang has them on Torque though.
But go with what you can afford and live comfortable with. You can always trade for another Mustang when the economics/situation is right for you. But no sense strapping yourself financially over a car...unless you still live at home with Mommy and Daddy But in the real world, hey...there are more important things in life than 'cool' wheels. Just my .02.

RE: Fusion
I have a new fusion that I am working on here at work. It's slower than my v6 mustang and the fusion gets 23 mpg on the highway, same as my modded mustang. The fusion feels like it needs another gear. The fusion is nice inside, has lots of stuff, but it's just not my kind of car...I personally would regret trading the mustang for the fusion, but you gotta do what you gotta do...

RE: Fusion
They gave me a Fusion to drive when my old car (06 V6er) was in the shop (the second time I think [:@]; it was there so many times I lost count). I was pleasantly surprised! It wasn't a bad car, especially for the price and the power wasn't bad either. If you have to get rid of your stang the Fusion is a good choice IMO anyway.
