My first runs were on a back road, but I have since talked to the guys at the local small airport and they were receptive to letting me do some speed testing on their runway. There are times I wish I lived in Germany...

Never been up to the speed limiter. But IMO, the driveshaft isn't the only thing to worry about at those speeds.

Not the same car, I know, but same possible outcome. Need hoodpins

join the army, they'll send you over there with a quickness and then you can do all the speeding you want. on the four lane sections of the autobahn, even old ladies travel at a speed of no less than 90 mph. but make sure you speed on a dry day cause unless you have tires than a 200 in width you'll hydroplane like a mf'er. it happened to me a couple times when i had my opel calibra. being stupid i guess running a 4 banger on 230's.

black stang, just find an old deserted road somewhere where there are no police around for miles and just let her rip. i mean, mustangs were built for speed, right? have some fun and take a chance.

fazm, i got my car from a military dealership that got it from german dealership so mine came with no governor on it. i do 125 to 130 mph on the indian res backroads (like you) everyday on my way to work. there aren't any police so im not worried about getting caught but what i am worried about that just came to my attention is the driveshaft/u-joint issue. i heard they go out around 125. cause mines german & american spec do you think they changed the pins and or the driveshaft for those type of speeds (in germany)? i'm hoping they did cause this is my only mode of transportation.

Been there, done that, got a whole bunch of green t-shirts to prove it.

Edit: WRT the drive shaft issue, there are several manufacturers making replacements. The cheapest I've seen is $500 for an aluminum unit, the most expensive $1000 for carbon fiber. They are usually half the weight of the stock unit. Here's a link to one for about $650.
