Benefits of higher octane gas

Benefits of higher octane gas
I apologize in advance if this is a stupid question, but my car is only 3 days old so I really want to take care of her.
Are there any benefits to using higher octane gas? I filled up for the first time today and used 87 octane.
Is there any reason to go with the higher/highest octane (usually 93 octane in my area)?

RE: Benefits of higher octane gas
Your stang is tuned by ford to run on 87. If you get a tuner they will take more advantage of the higher octanes.
If you don't you'll get a cleaner burning fuel but not as noticable gains as you would with a tune. My advice is it's not worth the extra $$ for higher octane unless you have the tune.

RE: Benefits of higher octane gas
I use the 87 octane tune and 87 octane gasoline for normal cursing and road trips. I use 91 (can't find 93 around here) when I want to play and just load the 91 octane tune (SCT XCal2) at the pump.
Here's a couple of links that will give you a more detailed understanding of what octane rating means:

RE: Benefits of higher octane gas
For your octane question - i am a chemical engineer and can tell you that there is absolutely no reason to buy anything other than 87, as long as you aren'y running a tune. Many higher compression engines like many of the V-6's in import sedans like Maxima's etc and high end cars run on higher octane but for our cars 87 is all you need. Many people and internet sites will tell you that 91 is better for your car and cleans your engine, etc - none of this is really true, while higher octane gas is a bit different, it just goes through a few more refining processes, hence the extra cost.
