ethanol fuel blend
So I filled up in PA today cuz its 25 cents a gallon cheaper. Turns out it was 10% ethanol, ive heard that long term use is bad, but hell if i had a multibillion dollar business i might spend a million to make my strongest competator sound like its really bad, and should never be used. You follow? Is this long term use thing proven to be true, or is big oil trying the scare tactic?

RE: ethanol fuel blend
All gas in Hawaii has 10% ethanol inside... its really terrible for carburated engines and older model cars/trucks.. I have a Honda Recon 4 wheeler, and I only had it for a year, and now it wont start up.. driven it at least 2 times a week ( i live on a farm) and i brought it back to my dealer and he told me it was the ethanol.... Gahh $4k wasted... i cant sell it because it wont start up... oh and you guys are lucky you didnt have to pay $4/gal for regular gas like we did.. when gas prices were sky rocketing... it sucked so bad.. $35 for 1/2 tank.. holy begeezus never again I hope...

RE: ethanol fuel blend
I'm from Iowa and the ethanol blended fuel is really big here. You can burn ethanol in your car with no trouble. It's usually a little higher octane than regular unleaded and it has no detrimental effects on your car. I just sold a '94 T-bird that had never run on anything but ethanol. It had 1/4 of a million miles on it didn't use oil and never had a fuel related problem. You aren't supposed to use it in air cooled engines, like lawnmowers because it runs a little hotter, but in your car it won't make a bit of difference. Also, using ethanol in cold climates is good because it prevents fuel line freezing. Although I know this, I still dump a can of Heet in when it starts getting much past 10 below, it makes me feel better. Do not confuse 10% ethanol with e-85, they're different! If you put e-85 in a car that is not specifically made for it, your in for trouble. I looked through my Mustang owners manual and I didn't find anything about e-85 fuel, so there is no way I'm putting it in my car.

VIRGINIA is mostly 10 percent ethanol also. I use it in the MUSTANG and also in my YAMAHA STAR STRATOLINER motorcycle. Your mileage might dip a bit, as alcohol based fuels don't give as good a mileage as petroleum based.
The photo in my avatar is a 410 CID sprint car, they run on pure alcohol and at WILLIAMS GROVE SPEEDWAY in PA get about two to three laps to a gallon. Not bad for an 800+ HP motor in a 1300 lb car on dirt.
