Default T-Lok & Gears

I know this has been discussed before but I want to ask anyway. I am very new to all of this modding stuff and I want to know what exactly does a T-Lok do? Also for gears what do they do? And for each of them which is the best to get? Also, does our car have a 7.5 rear? any help is appreciated. thanks.

T-lok puts power to both wheels as opposed to the single wheel that comes stock with the V6. A higher gear ratio (3.73, 4.10) will actually shorten up your shift time Thus increasing accelerationon your car. Our cars have a 7.5 rear end.

To clarify, the S197 4.0L V6 has a 7.5" rear-end featuring a 3.31:1 gear ratio, while the 4.6L V8 GT has a 8.8" rear-end with either 3.31:1 or 3.55:1 ratios (stock). Shorter gearing (higher numerically) will improve accellaration, but will reduce overall top speed and will most likely reduce gas mileage (cuz the car will run at a higher RPM with shorter gearing than stock).

the tlok will distribute power to both wheels until a 4000 rpm clutch drop on some sticky tires blows the spider gears out
http://www.3.8mustang.com/forum/showthread.php?t=183112

the higher the gear number, the more the car will rev (good thing for the s197s) and make more power sooner

4.10s from americanmuscle.com, along with a motive bering kit
detroit true trac and TA rear girdle from drivetrainspecialists.com
tune from vmp tuning if you dont already have one

with this setup you will most likely never have to open up your rear end again, you will loose 2 mpg from stock

Well I heard that 4.10's are not good for highway driving which I do a lot of. Is this true?

you heard that by people who have either never had them or had them in the 70s when the final drive was 1:1 and not .68/.75, you will loose 2 mpg at most on the highway, if anything it will go up in the city

Gears do NOT make more power!

The best gears for the auto are 3.73s right? What is the cheapest place I can find them for? (Also a t-lok)

mpsautosalvage.com has used 3.73s for $50, there is nothing wrong with used gears from them, tlok from stangmods.com, i would recomend a TA rear girdle and stud kit from drivetrainspecialists.com with a tlok

if you want new, then just go with 4.10s, theres such a mineute difference just do it right
