Awful Gas Mileage

RE: Awful Gas Mileage
The message center tells you assorted stuff one of which is the mpg. If you don't have the guage package I don't think you have it. If you do and haven't reset it, your averaging the hundreds or thousands of miles you put on. I did this myself the first 1000 miles and it hardly moved from 21 mpg. Cycle through the messages and hit reset on each one. It's surprising how much hills (or heavy right foot) lowers mpg. I'm in cold too and city is 16/17 but just head out on a flat road with no stops and it jumps to 23/24. Highway best 28.2. Remember to reset just when you start a flat, no stop road and you be at 26/27 in about 10 miles. Of course beeasy with the right foot. Have fun with your Mustang.

RE: Awful Gas Mileage
Hey guys,
I have a brand new 20075-speed Mustang with the 4.0L V-6. It has just over 400 miles on it so far and I am very pleased with the fuel performance. In town, when I short-shift and spend as much time as possible in neutral or 5th gear I'm seeing low to mid 20 MPG. On the freeway, when I'm not in any sort of hurry my standard cruising speed is 70. At 70, I'm seeing mid to high 20 mpg. If I'm in more of a hurry I'll cruise at 80 and I'm seeing mid 20s at this. Not too bad.

Weird ... I have a (powertrain) stock '07 V6 manual, running on 87 octane, and it's averaging 33 mpg on the expressway and 25+ otherwise.
How did you break-in your engine when you got your new car? I really think the advice I got here helped me get the mileage I'm getting:

I find my mileage is poor when I use a brand of fuel that contains ethanol. When I use a brand that doesn't, my mileage is where it should be. There are only a couple brands here that don't use ethanolso it's a challenge sometimes to find one. If I have to use fuel with ethanol, I just move up a grade and hope for the best.

I use 87 octane. I've got 2200 miles on mine so far. Normally get about 21-22 mpg in mixed city/highway driving.
If I reset the MPG calculator while on the highway, it reads about 28mpg going 65mph on a flat strech with no head wind and no naked women in the car.

The advice is not just for motorcycles: "these principles apply to all 4 stroke engines: Street or Race Motorcycles, Cars, Snowmobiles, Airplanes & yes ... even Lawn Mowers !! "

This advice seems to be for motorcycles and I really don't trust it.. just seems like a hoax to me.
