So I'm new to the mustang crowd. I bought an '05 Coupe w/ Premium package. I searched the forums a bit and didn't really find the answers I was looking for. What are your suggestions on performance upgrades to the 4.0L? I have the 5 speed auto, so I was looking at tgetting a diablosport to speed up shifting. When it comes to an intake and exhaust I'm totally clueless though.

It would be very appreciated if I could hear everyones opinions. Thanks!

welcome to the site! for exhaust, pretty much any single will give you around the same gains. as of now it seems that the mrt gives the best gains by a little, and it's my favorite (obviously...i bought it lol). any axle back should give you somewhere around 10rwhp. When it comes to intakes/tunes, the TI/xcal2 or C&L/xcal2 combos seem to be best. you can get a great deal on a TI/xcal combo here, already with tunes.

http://tunableinduction.com/

these won't be as great as a dyno tune, but they will be better than stock and you will have the option of dyno tuning later with the xcal.

Hi, Get a quality Intake. I purchased a cheaper one once (Ebay) on a 95 Mustang and all you heard was this hissing sound just off throttle. No it wasn't leaking just cheap. In the garbage it went. Exhaust seems like a big debate. I'm also looking for a good low tonesounding muffler but a lot of people just say "it sounds great" when describing theirs. But I don't want mine to sound like a rice burner. Some brands on the web actualy have the sound you can download, idleing, full throttle& drive by. Have fun with your Mustang.

Welcome to the forum!

First get a dual exhaust system. You'll do much better and yield more power to the rear wheels than just throwing on a loud single muffler!
Then getthe C and L Cold Air Intake System along with the Diablo Predator tuner.
You can find everything you need at http://rpmoutlet.com/05v6.htm
Great prices, excellent tech support!

I also installed a Ford Racing posi-traction differential. No more spinning just one wheel and tractiononwet roads and the snow is much improved!;-)

Wolfy, NICE CLIPS!

Thanks for all the help guys, the C&L intake with diablosport kit seems like a good price. I live pretty close to summit racing and they wanted $400 alone for the diablosport!

Now, with the dual exhaust I have a few options no? Should I get a full exhaust or just an axle-back?

Also, that link for the posi-traction says it's for the older 3.8, will that still work with the 4.0?

Again, thanks for being so nice. Hard to come across a car forum with people willing to help out newbies.

you're kidding me, right?

Acceleration is excellent. I'd say it now does 0-60 in just a hair over 4 seconds! Eat your hearts out GT's!

there's no way that's even close to being true.

Nah, probably notas I only estimated via seat of the pants and counting 1-1000, 2-1000 etc. as I watched the speedo goup to 60.More like 5seconds I'd say but without doing it viaan official clock I can't say for sure. I was just bragging about hera little bit that's all ;-P.

Yes ted, the diff' will work on all 7.5" rear ends up to 2007's. I should know eh? ;-)
Personally I think axle back singles are for women, rice burners and guys that buyplastic customizingcar parts from Advance Autoand KMartbut hey, that's just me.

Duals are the way to go if you want maximum improvement/performance out of your 4.0. Don't let anyone tell you different. Besides, dual's look way better and cooler than singles any day! You can cut a notch on the drivers side 'most kits come with templates' bumper for the other pipe/muffler but I went with a GT take off rear bumper cover from V6MustantStuff.com I would try to find one elsewhere though because the first one I got from their drop shipper in Indiana looked like someone had dragged it across the flloor before they boxed it for shipping. V6MS did however send me a replacement which was nearly perfect in a few days so they do work hard to please.

I'm sure if I get dual exhaust I'll get the GT bumpers, I was looking at them on ninosport a few minutes ago. Not dreadfully expensive like some and I love the look. I've got a bit of customizing ahead of me

[EDIT]

About the posi-trac, I have traction control at the moment. Which would be more beneficial?
