Default Are 5-speed manual transmissions supposed to sound like grinding?

I have a new 2007 Mustang, 750 miles on it, and it has a 5-speed manual. This is the first car I've ever owned with a 5-speed and I don't know if what I'm hearing is typical for a car like this or what.

I hear a lot of rattling that seems to be coming from the transmission, to include a very concerning "grinding" sound that I hear in the higher gears when the throttle's on. When coasting and throttle off, everything sounds good, but when power is applied I definitely hear some sort of grinding or *something* of the sort! Again, this quite possibly could be normal manual transmission noises, but it seems a little atypical..

Am I hearing things legitimately or are the transmissions on our new Mustangs just very vocal about turning their gears?

Also, is there a website or place I can view the current 2007 Technical Service Bulletins for my V-6 Mustang?

Thanks!

I have the same sounds and worry about it too. I have a friend that has a 93 GT with a 347 stroker in it and a really beefed up trans for the strip and his trans is not as loud as mine. He is a mechanic and says that it is normal sounding. Mine still runs strong, but with a 100,000 bumper to bumper warranty I am not going to worry about it. Mine is more of a popping sound than grinding and it is mostly in 4th gear at slower speeds when I accelerate hard. Usually under 40 and accelerating hard in 4th gear sounds like the thing is gonna break.

It's definitely not a whine. It's a grind. It's terrible.

Additionally, it's coming from the transmission and not the rear differential. I know the difference between the two. I'm taking it into the shop on Monday.

Let me know what they say about the tranny. I might need to have mine looked at too. Thanks
