how did they run off???...and how did you in a mustang not catch them???..for you to be immobile it had to be pretty hard thus their car would have been smashed up too.....just wondering and sorry to hear about your incident......sometimes i really hate people.......i live in l.a. there are hit and runs all the time here.....i hope it never happens to me and for the sake of the runner they better hopr my car is not driveableif they run, cause if it is....i will catch them and after treating their knee caps to some kung phunny they will pay for the damage to my ride.....
Good question.
I hear you, but technically if you give chase, you can be charged for leaving the scene of an accident. I'd probably go after them if it was mechanically possible, but you do risk getting in trouble for something that otherwise wouldn't be your fault.

Also, if you intend to file a police report (have the police come over and do it, I mean) or take pictures for your insurance company, it's better if your car is sitting in its exact position so they can use that to establish fault for the accident. If you take off after the other guy, it might be harder for them to determine who was where when what happened, and that might cause you some problems as well.
