I also have the Pioneer Avic Z-1 and had to get the regulator put in for the popping to stop. Trust Us.
i have the z1 and yes you need it(the regulator)...or else you will have apop and a humm...i think the amp is under one of the front seats.....i may be wrong....

Thanks. I made one up today at work. Works great. Would have never quess they use 5 volts for the remore turn on. Must go along with using 6x8's instead of a standard 6x9. Ford..
