than a 99-04 sixer. Why is this and is it really faster or is it just an illussion? My only guess would be the 5 speed automatic that comes in the 05+ and it also has a little more power but not alot. Your thoughts................................

Both, They are a bit faster than 99-04 (a few 10ths). The tranny really helps though. The 4 spd stock auto in the 99-04's really drug them down.Up to a full second slower 0-60 and one point something in the quarter when compared to Manual v6 of the same year. 5 speed auto keeps the car its power band which definitely helps make the auto faster and more comparable to the manual versions. For mods the newer electronics pick up extra HP easier than the older style but they are waaayyyy more finicky so there's less room for mistakes.

I know the new 350Z for 08 is bumping the power on the auto tranny to 318 vs 306 or 307 on the manual to help even further close the gap between auto and manual for their car. I don't see ford doing that do.

there about half a second quicker then the new edges, the old 4R70W was a good tranny to put power throught, but sucked for preformance without a stall and shift kit

I kept my 3.8 as a backup/winter car when I bought my '06. The difference is not in your imagination. I plan to run them side by side sometime soon to quantify the difference.

the old 4R70W in stock form absolutely sucked, but could hold HP and torque decentlythe 5R55 is alot quicker in shifting and has a closer ratio,

Yea, we've got a 94 3.8L vert, she's a beauty but..

This transmission really makes the difference. My 5-spd zetec contour would accelerate just as fast as the 3.8...

94s are also the dog single port motors with 145/215 and 2.73 rear, yay for mid to high 16s
