Default Opinion on Manual trans

Ok,
I have about 7000 miles on my 06.
I love the care and have a lot of fun driving it.
However, shifting about drives me nuts.
First of all, the clutch has too much throw, and all of the engagment is at the very
top end of the clutch throw. I think the clutch is fully engaged and I let my foot off the clutch
and the car jerks a little as it engages the rest of they way.
Maybe its me, but I like the clutch engagment to be more towards the bottem of the throw.
Second, it seems like there is some kind of slop in the clutch as it engages with the fly wheel.
Its almost as if the Springs on the clutch that cushen the engagement are too loose.
Third. It also feels like there is a little slop in the drive shaft.
I have the clutch fully engaged and will be decelerating. I then give it a little gas at it will sometimes jerk a little
as if there is some play in the drive shaft.
I dont think these things are problemattic to my car as I test drove a 05 and a different 06 before I bought mine, and they where the same.

I could be justbeing picky, but it does feel a little sloppy to me.
That being said, the sloppy drive train did not prevent me from buying the car, and I have a lot of fun driving it. I just wish the drive train was a little tighter.

Does anyone else feel the same way?
If so, where you able to do anything about it?
I am interested in hearing anyones opinion.

It seems like there are a couple of points in the drive train that have some slop.

My GT does all that as well, plus the 2 piece driveshaft clunks around, making a lot of noise... Id like to see a way to adjust the engagment spot in the throw of the clutch...

Hello harlanb1,
I changed out my driveshaft and installed an aluminum 3 1/2" driveshaft.............this smoothed out some of the vibration and slop........the orig. driveshaft IMO is garbage.........

Cheers!

You've just been introduce to Ford's transmissions

I've noticed this with my car as well but it wasn't irritating enough to keep me from buying it.

First of all, you just get used to it. Second, if you don't like the throw and want a better shift...change your clutch to a Hurst Competition Short Throw. $200 or less depending where you look and theyreally are great. I am getting one this month finally. Plus, it would be a good investment to change your gearing...I prefer the 3.55. Then get a tuner and tune your car so it runs just right. I think doing all this may satisfy youa bit more.

+1 on the driveshaft. I hear it gets rid of almost all the slop and noise attributed to the shaft. I also plan on a hurst shifter this month.
