It's a Ford, it's a Mustang, they are ALL like that. If it's not currently it will eventually be like that.
Best way around it is, if it won't drop into reverse easily the first time, put it into first gear then try reverse. Sometimes you have to go First/Second then Reverse (takes all of a second to do). The other way is to slowly let the clutch out while pushing the stickinto reverse until it drops in. It will drop in before the clutch has a chance to engage.

While you have the clutch in, put it in 3rd positon before you go down to reverse. This is a trick I learned for my '99 GT and it seems to line things up.

RE: 07 Manual...Hard reverse?
reverse is not synchronized so if you can't get into it, try letting the car roll back an inch or two, or if you can't roll back (you are on level ground) put it in first and roll forward an inch, then try reverse again. It's totally normal for that to happen and it will get easier as the cars wears in.

The owners manual talks about a kind of lock out that prevents you from accidently shifting into reverse.
If you move the shifter all the way to the left while in nuetral, and then shift it into reverse, it will usually go right in.

It's hard on my '07 too, but the actually reverse gear catches much sooner on the clutch than any other. In fact, you don't even need to give the car any gas to move in reverse. I simply ride the clutch and gently ease it in and I can reverse without using the gas pedal. Works great and saves fuel!
