I now run Mobil 1 synthetic motor oil in both 4.0L's, and do a full change (oil & filter) every 5K miles. Although my tranny has the stock fluid, the rear now has Royal Purple in it since the 4.10's.

I work as a GS for City Garage, and can say without a doubt that Mobil 1 synthetic will keep your engine clean and running well. Remove an intake manifold and valve covers on a car with 75k miles that's only been running mobil 1 and it will still have a beautiful bronze look to it. Being unable to change back to regular from synthetic is a myth, you can change back and forth as much as you want, but who would want to? Synthetic is a superior product, but not something as different as diesel and unleaded. Even with a synthetic oil change you still should change your oil every 3-4k miles, not 6 or 7.5k, it's just better in the long run. And royal purple does'nt mean a thing on our cars, I mean, it was designed for serious horsepower applications like 500hp+ drag cars.I'd stake a full weeks pay that it does'nt make any difference in a 244 V6. Run anything, run your favorite brand, just please, for the love of god, do not run pennzoil.

Ok I went to change my oil today at the dealer and told him I wanted synethetic, he said semi synthatic or full synethetic, I told him the full synthetic. He came back and said the full synethetic would be $5 more per quart, so I went with semi senthetic (whaterver the hell that is)

So what is the consensus should I bring in my own oil next time?

or you could do your own oil change. lol. easy as cake.

but if you really want to have someone do your oil change. you can do what you said and buy your own oil and have them change it. my dad does that.

Does royal purple help with gear/lsd clutch whining? Do you have to change rear end oil much?
