Default Synthetic Motor Oil

I got my oil changed today and put in AMS XL 5 W30. Stuff is somewhat expensive but the oil changes are every 7500 miles they say. I notice that the Owner's Manual recommends premium synthetic oil. What are the main advantages, higher mileage, better perf?[/align]

mainly if you use synthetic, you can gain about 10rwhp. at least this is the case with the royal purple synthetic. Also, do not switch between synthetic and non-synthetic in your motor. Now that you have synthetic, keep using synthetic

I have not heard of anyone gaining 10rwhp switching to synthetic. I would need to see a before and after dyno to believe it, and it would have to be on the same day. I am running syntheic all the way around on my car though, just switched to amsoil for my transmission, also put in a larger transmission oil pan as well.

My car is still new so I havnt had to change the oil yet. My dad recommends putting Mobil 1 in it for the entirety of its life. Anyone have any opinions on Mobil 1?

regardless of what the bottle says, you should still change your oil every 3000 miles.

My dealership tried to spook me out of using synthetic. They gave me some bull crap about how our engines run hotter than what is normal, and this somehow makes synthetic unsafe. But everyone has their argument. Mobil 1 will tell you it's the best thing in the world you can do for you engine.

BTW, what is the advantage of using synthetic in your transmission?

The very best oil you can buy is Red Line synthetic oil and is in a class by itself .It is made from poly olesters , the same that is used in jet aircraft. It is also known as a ( group 5 oil). About 8 or 9 dollars a quart or more. Although not as good as red line, mobil one and amsoil which are made from poly alpha olephins are the best that you can buy off the store shelves and are a ( group 4 oil ) and are a world above regular motor oil . Oils that are in (group 3) are oils like castrol syntec and other various store bought synthetics which ARE NOT as good as mobil or amsoil but are just a step above regular motor oils .( Group 2) oils are premium grades of ultra refined regular motor oil .(Group 1) is less refined oil like bulk oil.

Oil changes
( Group 5 ) 7500 - 10000
(group 4 ) 6000 - 7500
( group 3 ) 4000-5000
( group 1 and 2 ) 3000

synthetic trans fluid IS better than regular fluid .Less wear , better economy and gas mileage.
Synthetics although more cost initially , in the long run WILL pay for themselves and more

Mobil 1 is good and its cheap, I was using Royal Purple but it just cost to much. Mobil 1 costs about 4 buck a qt on sale. I'd change it 3000 to 5000 miles due to the weak link in the whole system, the filter! No matter the oil, filters brake down.
