I never go with the doorframe rating.here's a good rule of thumb
if the Tire sidewall says MAX PSI 35- run it at 32-33 PSI (Measurements taken when cold)
if it saysMAX PSI 44 run it at 37-39 PSI. (Measurements taken when cold)

Heat expands the air in the tires, if you inflate to max PSI when cold you will actually end up with over pressurized tires when hot.

That's it.

are you kidding? who keeps their tires at almost 40psi unless its a spare...if you keep your tires a few pounds below the max you will greatly reduce the life of the tire and wear the center....bad bad idea

Well I looked at the tire itself and it says max Pressure 44psi so I typically fill it to 40 as a saftey factor. The shops that I take it to for oil changes do too. What is this about filling it less than max? You don't want it right at max pressure do you?

The max rating shown on tires is just that - the maximum. But that tire may end up on any number of different cars, each with different vehicle weight. So it is up to the car manufacturer to identify the proper inflation pressure for that particular car using those tires.

Me, I run 32-35psi in my tires...
