Default Does this sound good?

I have a 2006 Tungsten Grey Mustang Coupe with 6,300 miles. It has the following options:5-Speed Auto, V6 Pony Package, Interior Upgrade Package. I am looking to trade fora 2007 Tungsten Grey Coupe that has the following options: 5-Speed Manual, Interior Upgrade Package, V6 Pony Package, Front Side Airbags, ABS & TC. The ABS and TCwere included with the Pony Package in 2006.

The dealer has offered me a trade for my 2006 Coupe + $3,800 including $1,300 in tax. I am going to tell him this morning that if he will take $3,500 and my car that he has a deal. Sound right? That deal includes Ford X-Plan and $1,750 in rebates. I was really sorry I didn't get the 5-Speed Manual after I bought the 2006. The 2007 has the 5YR/60,000 Powertrain Warranty, the side airbags, the 5-Speed Manual and the Auxiliary Audio Input Jack and is a year newer.

That's a big hit to take, IMO. You've made car payments for a year (+/-), and you'll be paying $3,500 for the depreciation of your 2006 car in order to buy the 2007. In addition, you'll be making car payments a year longer on the 2007 (again, +/-) than if you kept your 2006. You need to consider all that before you decide if shifting gears manually is worth the cost.

A cheaper alternative could be to install a tune (to eliminate throttle lag and improve shifts) and a CAI. You can manually shift your auto, and it's still fun to drive. That's what I do when I go from my coupe (4.0L/5spd) to the wife's vert (4.0L/auto).

Buyer's remorse can be painful, whether it's the decision to keep your 2006 auto, or to buy the 2007 5spd. In the end it's your money, and your decision.

Thanks for the advice. I will probably just keep the 2006. My wife was not too keen on the idea of trading. In addition to getting the 5-Speed Manual I was hoping to get rid of the clunk in the front end that is driving me crazy. Also hoped to fix my problem with the Shaker 500 skipping on home burned CD's. The 2007 has an audio input jack so I could just plug my mp3 player in and not worry about the CD skipping. All we listen to is bootleg shows of Bob Dylan and they skip in the Shaker 500. I also liked the idea of having the side airbags although I would not have ordered them on the car.

I told the dealer I would decide by tomorrow (Monday) if I was going to trade or not. One thing in favor of the trade is the 2007 would be a year newer so it should bring more than the 2006 if I sell it in the future. No?
