Default Rim mishap

OK, so I was pulling away from the ATM yesterday and hear a disgusting grinding sound from the rear. Well sure enough I hadclipped the end of the right hand curb with my back passenger rim. Damn! Well I love my rims, I have the 18” fanblades I have seen them called. Damage isn’t too bad, 6 inches long, maybe 1/8” wide, just along the lip of the rim. They are polished aluminum FYI. So my question is, can I buff the damaged area to smooth it out with anything? I realize it will never look the same, but would like to minimize the scuffed area. I have a dremel tool and thought maybe a soft buffing tool for that? I don’t want to make it worse so maybe I should just live with it, but thought I would check my options.

Thanks in advance.

Sorry to hear about your damage to the rim. Without seeing pictures, I would think that you could buff it out and it would look better than it does now. You could also watch fleabay for a new rim...

Its not bad enough to replace. In fact, probably not even noticable if i never pointed it out. More of a personal thing to me. I will take a pic tonight and post it though.

I slid into a guard rail last winter and did the exact same looking damage to my front passenger rim (just a little bit of scrape along the lip.) You could take it into a welding/wheel repair shop in your town (check the phone book) and they can probably fix it up okay for a couple bucks (the places here quoted me $150-175 ish.) I ended up just buying a new rim which was a painful $400 from Ford, because I didn't want to risk the re-finishing and whatever from the wheel shop turning out crappy, and having to end up replacing the rim anyway.

But look around, ask some of those companies if they can do anything with it, or perhaps just buy a take-off rim so you can get a bit of a deal. Definitely don't buy a new one from Ford though. I wish I had known about take-off parts earlier.
