I really have no clue if there is a difference; however, I do remember reading on previous posts that there was. Not completely sure though.

Got these part numbers from partsbill on the GT forum, now I have to wonder if the muffler from the automatic may be more restrictive etc ???

4.6L 3v V8 SOHC EFI Manual Transmission part# 4R3Z 5230-RM RH

You think Ford is going to spend the extra cash to have different muffs for the auto and manual?
Don't think so.

Hi,

if they are the same, then why are ther different part # for auto and manual?
Yes Ford did spend the money for two different mufflers, and that was to avoid the dreaded drone that one of my 06 GT Automatic owning friends has had to deal with since he bought a dynomax system - it droned badly at highway speeds, where the other guy with the GT stick didn't have drone with the same system (cause guy one took it off and tried a different system which he can live with). The stick GT mufflers have different baffling than the autos. I have his complete stock setup as well as a set of GT stick takeoffs, they do sound different. The stick ones are deeper sounding, but they both sound decent.

um, just to see if this was true, some friends and Icut two apart...one from an 06 gt 5 speed, one from an 07 gt auto.....guess what, ......exactly the same...well except one was from the right side, and one from the left...they have dif part #'s cause they are issued to different areas on the assembly lines......they don't build them both on the same line at the same time, as they move down assembly the auto tranniesgo to a different area for powertrain setup than the manual tranny, theexhaust is hung post thepowertrain setup, on a different link of the assembly line.

That makes sense, now would the difference in baffling cause the auto muffler to not flow as well as the GT muffler - would they flow the same ???

I beg to differ; Ford is after saving as much money as possible and would not continue the expense of maintaing separate PN's for replacement parts for stick/autos - which continues through the 07 years, I just looked at the parts catalog.

honestly you guys are retarted if you think that ford would actually go out of their way to make 2 different mufflers depending on the transmission in the car
