Default headlight bulb exploded. now what...

I put in some hella optilux xenon white xb h11 9007.

Well one side just happened to explode after being turned on for about 3 seconds. Releasing xenon gas and fogged up the headlamp. I removed the assembly washed it out with water, blew it out with air and no such luck on removing the foggy residue inside.

My only option now would be to bake the headlamp assembly at 200 degrees for 5-10 minutes. I have a heatgun i could attempt that route as well.

If anyone is thinking about changing bulbs. Just leave them..

Sounds to me like there may have been a slight fracture in the glass causing it to break when warming up. I don't think you should tell people to not change the bulbs because many have done it with no issues at all.

You probably won't be able to get the foggy residue from the inside of the housing, you would probably be better off buying a new one. When trying to seal the housing back up there are often times issues with water leaking/condensation.

I don't know why your bulb exploded; but I read the manual it says when we replace the bulbs, don't touch the glass part. the moister from our hand can make the bulb expode when we turn the light on.

Won't make it explode, not to my knowledge though it will make the bulb go dead for sure.

Did you wipe any finger prints off the bulb before installing? Also since many of these 'high output' bulbs get super hot it's a good idea to use alcohol to wipe the glass down anyways to get rid of any film on the bulb even if you didn't touch it.

Sounds like either you had a finger print on the bulb, film, or a scratch on the bulb that caused it to fail. Take it back to where you went and see if they will exchange it.

Well i exchanged the bulb and no problems. The inside of the assembly is still messed up but they are seeing if they can get me a replacement. And the package was unopened and no finger prints I had not touched it. I know not to touch it because I replace bulbs at my work 20x a day with no problems...
