Default K & N Intake

I have a chance to buy a k & N cold air kit with throttle body spacer for my 05. I'm wondering what exactly this does as far as helping performanceor whatever.

The K&N will add a little better airflow couse of the conical filter design, but the stock 65mm tube on the K&N will limit you to about 1-3HP gain. and with out a matching tune may cause you to run lean. Not much if any HP or efficiency gain for the $200 plus They cost retail.

The spacer is a paperweight, totally useless, all hype etc....people here on the forum will laugh if you buy it...

To get the best out of the S197 V6 ;

1) Get a good single axleback (flowmaster, JBL, MAC etc) or GT take off muffler (1/2 hour bolt on labor, $80 for the GT take off)

2) Then get a good Tune and CAI combo pack from a reputeable tuner. Buy them both matched from the same shop at the same time. This will set you back another $600 or so. You will gain the 25-30HP better throttle response and mileage you are looking for with the K&N thing and be much happier.

To summarize, ...Don't waste your $ or time on half measures, save up a little more and do it right the first time.

Just buy a supercharger if you want more power, and if you plan on superchargeing ur v6 like I did, don't buy all these bolt ons like the spacer the filter and the tuner, because when you get the supercharger it all comes with it!!!

I just purchased to GT takeoffs and I am going to start with those. I'll just save and buy the CAI and tuner. Sounds likea better deal from what I have read. Thanks for the advice!
