Mods to get to 300hp?

RE: Mods to get to 300hp?
IllegalStealth, ur #'s on the v6 and GT are a little off. The GT stock flywheel HP is 300 and 320 Torque, where as the 4.0's stock HP is 210 and 240 Torque. If ur a 4.0 auto and the GT's a manual, it's still not gonna be a close race no matter how bad of a driver the GT guy is. Here's why:
1.Manual's are quicker off the line unless the auto is running higher gears.
2.The 0-60 times with the average good stickdriver is about 1.6 seconds apart, or 16 car lengths in the quarter mile.
With that info u can see clearly it's not a driver's race. Yes, I no auto's are faster in every other aspect thanoff the line over manuals, that's why I got mine in auto and threw on 4.10's and t-lok so I am a lot quicker off the line now. PS-have u driven ur dads car yet?
Back to the thread, stock price of a 4.0 is about $6k less than a GT. Throw on an x-charger w/o hi-po unit $3.6k +$400 tuner+$150-$200 hi-flow mufflerand if u install urself ur budget is done at $4.3k and ur car has about 270-290flywheelhp and 300-320 Torque, and with the 100lb weight advantage, ur pretty much running with GT's for $1.8k less and a few hundread less in insurance. If u have someone install, subtract another $800. If u chose the hi-po x-charger,subtract another $300-$500 and add another 30-40hp making u about anotherhalf second in the quarter faster, now u will never see GT's except at the starting line. Also, X-chargers reliability wise are great. There forced induction is only on with hard throttle applications, so boost is on only when u want/need it so ur engine doesn't take a beating. Other than that heads/cam and muffler is about the same as the xcharger butcheaper and about the same reliabilitywith the same hp possibly as the xcharger some guess, but we won't know till someone does or I do it and dyno at the beginning of next yr. Turbo's are about $500-$1.5k more than the hi-po xcharger but willproduce about double ur stock hp easy and reliability varies with how much boost u push but 300-350 flywheel hp for daily driving is pretty safe if u don't wot more than a couple times a week or speed out of complete stops a lot. Good luck on ur decision, but GT's a waste of time with the 4.0's capabilities unless u want a 400-450hp daily driver or 500hp+ dragster.

RE: Mods to get to 300hp?
but the x-charger runs lower psi than turbo's, makin it less damaging to your engine. Regular x i think is around 6 psi, hi-pois a few psi higher and turbos can go beyond 14psi. More boost u run, more harm to ur engine.
