supercharger or turbocharger????

supercharger or turbocharger????
I'm thinking about upgrading my engine with either a supercharger (either vortech or x-charger), or a turbocharger. I'm wondering if anybody knows which would be better. I hear that the supercharger is supposed to be more responsive because it gets it power directly from the engine, so it doesn't have the lag that a turbocharger would have. Now, don't bite my head off....I'm REALLY new to this, and I want to get more power out of my pony ('05 V6). Any insight would be greatly appreciated as to which would be better. Also, if anybody has any specs to compare from....that would help even more.

RE: supercharger or turbocharger????
if you have the means, i would usually say go turbo, but the thing about turbos is they are not quite as simple as most superchargers. The x-charger is a very simple unit that pretty much anyone could deal with and is a fairly easy/inexpensive install. Now that in mind, it will give you the least performance increase of the many options. A centrifugal supercharger like vortech or procharger is slightly more complicated. The procharger you have to change the oil which is not a big deal, but may be unwanted...the vortech is oiled by your motor oil. Both are more complicated installs than the x-charger, but will give you better performance in most situations. The turbo options will give you the most performance, but have the most complicated installs. The powerhouse turbo is the most expensive forced induction, but is also the best performer. The new twister turbo setup from forced 4 motorsports is pretty damned inexpensive, but again is a fairly long install compared to the other options. Really, you would probably be quite happy with any of them. I would say, if you just want this for street use, go with the x-charger or the vortech. If you want track performance, go turbo or centrifugal (turbo will outperform). It's all up to you.

I'm not so sure that the turbo lag is as big of a problem as it used to be. At least that's what a lot of turbo owners say.
And with the new turbo that Forced4 Motorsports is coming out with it may not have as much of a price difference as most superchargers out there. And it is certainly promising a lot of power for the money. There is a thread about it, you should check it out.

thats some very early high torque for a turbo. little to no lag on my system.
if you have the money go turbo. it is generally the most expensive route, but most power.

Thanks a lot for all of your input guys. I'm doing some homework between the two, and I'm leaning more towards going turbo. I was just a little apprehensive about going that route because of the lag that I heard about. BUT......if I can't go turbo, then I'm considering Vortech H/O.

no, you would have to switch to a y-pipe if you want to stay duals.
