rusting lug nuts????

I was detailing the wheels today and noticed that the oem lug nuts are getting rusty / beat up looking at the edges. Anyone else having this problem? I have had the tires rotated twice at the dealers and switched wheels one time myself. Doesn't seem right that they should rust so soon. If it gets much worse I will have to replace them with some that won't detract from the appearance of the car.

whoever is changing tires on your car is beating the crap out of your lug nuts with air wrenches and all steel sockets. You can ask them to use a lined socket, or buy one yourself and do your own rotating. Chrome is thin, it doesn't take much to scuff it, then the plain steel is exposed to air and rusts.

Do dealerships have lined sockets? I haven't taken mine in for service yet, so I'm wondering if I should purchase a socket just so they won't screw up my lug nuts. http://soundmachine.org/dci/forum/im.../icon_help.gif

Have you guys looked under your cars lately? When mine was on a lift having the duals installed, I noticed how the drive shaft and rocker arms have surface rust. From what I understand, the only thing we can do to remedy this is to replace the parts with aluminum parts.
I can't understand why Ford would have used such a metal knowing it was going to rust. My car is only 8 months old! http://soundmachine.org/dci/forum/im...on_soapbox.gif

the parts you see sit outside the factory that produces them. Then they ship by truck or rail to Ford, where they sit outside until they build your car. It doesn't hurt anything. If it bothers you sand them down a little and use a paint that covers rust.

Do you seriously look under your car and did you expect not to see rust?

What??? http://soundmachine.org/dci/forum/im...n_confused.gifYes I looked under my car when the guy at the shop pointed out how things were rusting. He is a transmission specialist and said he would give Ford Hell for a car less than a year old rusting.
No I don't expect to see major parts rusting so soon. http://soundmachine.org/dci/forum/im..._thumbdown.gif
