2007 "Pony Package" Tire question
Hey friends,
Was wondering if it would be possible to put 275/40/17 size tires on a stock 17 inch wheel, and would itcause any issueswith the "tire inflation" detection system.
As always, thanks for ya*lls input.
Regards, Podie

RE: 2007 "Pony Package" Tire question
I'm pretty sure the stock 17's are a 17x8 wheel. I'm not too sure about a 275/40-17 on a 8 inch wide wheel because I have 17x8 Bullitts and I wanted to put a 275 on it but if you calculate the tire width with the tire calculator on wallaceracing.com it says a 275 tire is 10.83" wide, trying to put ona tire that is almost 3 inches wider then the wheel is not a good idea and from my experience working for tire kingdom its not going to happen with a 40 series tire...there just isnt enough sidewall flex to make it fit...the tire is just too damn wide. I ended up going with a 275/50-17 but i wouldn't suggest it with a new body car. I have a 2000 and itfits with almost no clearanceand rubs a little due to the axle's "side to side" shift during cornering. I suggest either sticking to the 245/45-17 that should be on those wheels or getting wider wheels, americanmuscle.com has a lot of reasonably price replica wheels in 17 and 18 inch diameters and8, 9, 10, and 10.5 inch widths.

RE: 2007 "Pony Package" Tire question
That's good advice. Every tire company sets a minimum wheel width for each tire. They do that for a reason. Too wide a tire on a given rim will cause the tread area to cup, with the center portion of the thread having principle contact leaving the edges with less contact.
I believe folks have put 255 width tires on 17x8" factory Bullitts rims. Not sure of the exact tire specs.
