Anyone have Before and After 1/4 times with Gear swap?
I'm getting ready to go with 3.73 Gears and a T-Lok. Instead of paying the $500 for parts and $300 for labor (quoted at the dealer) I'm going with the 8.8 GT take-Off for $939 shipped. For the extra $140 or so I get an 8.8 inch instead of the 7.5. My question is ... does anybody have real world numbers on 1/4 miles times going from the 3.31 open to the 3.73 T-Lok? I saw in another thread that with 4.10 gears the 1/4 mile went from 15.3 to 14.2 ... pretty sweet gain. I know everyone says do 4.10's ... but I just can't bring myself to go with gears that steep.

remember the gt takeoff is heavier that the 7.5 diff. If you take it to the track then the 8.8 would be a good idea but if its just daily driver stay with the 7.5.

Depends on how you look at it ... if the 8.8 is 50lbs heavier than the 7.5 it may make more sense to race with the lighter 7.5 ... The weight difference of the rear is probably the same as riding with a full tank of gas as opposed to a 1/4 tank ... or having a small child sitting in the back.

as long as your not launching hard or puttig slicks on the 7.5 will hold up especially on a non boosted car. now if your boosted and want to launch hard then upgrade to the 8.8

Yeah, the 7.5 is very strong. I forgot how much hp was on Buckman's and Rygen's cars when they had gears on the 7.5 but they were pushing over 300rwhp I think probably more. Gotta find rygen or buckman for that info though. Rygen switched to an 8.8 to get his 10sec car though. I'm not sure but I think Buckman had the 7.5 when he ran his 11's, not sure. Can anyone clarify? And for the 1/4 mile time, unless ur pushing a lot of power? (Full bolt-ons, heads/cam, F/I) then u should do 4.10's unless u do a lot of highway driving. And for the gains w/just a gear swap, I asked that ? a while ago. I forgot who it was but someone with an x-charger or other supercharger said he was 4 tenths quicker in the 1/4 after 4.10's and a t-lok. U could look up the gears thread and I was the starter to help u there. Good Luck on whatever u do!
