Default Ideas on Tires/wheels?

I am going to either need wider tires or drag radials when I go to the strip and/or when Iam done with my mods. I think the widest I could go now with drag radials on my rear rimsis235/65/16. That is also the widest I cango with street tires too. People say w/gears and no wider tires than stock, ur gonna have hooking problems.Do u think drag radials that wide would be ok for me at the strip(check sig for mods and future mods)? If not, Would I have touse my tuner to fix my speedo if Iget 16X10's for the rear of my car?Can 16X10's fit in my rear wheel wells with tires?Thetires on those rims would be 275 or 285/65/16 street tiresor radials. Thanx for the help and input ahead of time!

Joe

Peolple are using 10" wide rims in various rim sizes, from 15's to 20's (maybe 22's to). I run the Nitto555 295/45/18 out back on a 18x10 rim, and i've heard that the Nitto555r 305/45/18 street drag will also work.

The tuner can be used to correct the speedo, but I haven't personally done it because i'm too cheap to buy a tuner. [&:]

I can't really answer the question about the stock rims, but hopefully someone will step up and help you.

Im running 255/65r16's on my stock 16x7 rims out in the back.
30 miles each way daily driving. Drives really nice.
The rim width forces the tire to be taller,a 29" tall tire instead of the 27" tal 215/65r16 stock one.
Still running the 3.31 gears and they will still spin from a dead stop leaning into it a bit.
B ama 91 perf tune and GT takeoff help out a lot.
I'll be installing my powertrax lock-rite locker in the next few weeks to give me the two-leggers.
And eventually I'll have the 4.10's installed, no rush as of yet.

In terms of drag radials, I would suggest two options for you, assuming you plan to keep the wheels at 16":
[ol][*]275/55-16 M&H Racemaster DR (28" dia., minimum wheel size is 16x9")[*]255/50R16 Mickey Thompson ET Street DR (26.1 dia, and fits 16x7" stock wheel).[/ol]
My preference would be the second choice, mainly because you can pick up an extra pair of stock rims for dirt and they will match your fronts. TONS of people love this tire for the track, and it can be used on the street (avoid rainy days). I run the M&H DR's (275/50-17 on 17x9" replica Bullitts) on the street in warm weather with no issues.

Thanx for all the help, I think I might go with hops 2nd choice, the summerstreet radials. They sound like a great idea! And r pretty wide! So, doI need to buy extra stock rims to use them, or is it really hard to change tires on the car w/a jack? And did u need to fix the speedo from the new tires?Thanx for the help again!

You can adjust the tire revs per mile to correct the speedo - it's easy with the SCT handheld tuner.

Stock, our tires are about 27" in diameter. With either DR, you'd have a different diameter. I like having a 28" tall tire with my 4.10's.I drive to the track with my DR's on the car, but you can always throw them in the trunk/backseatand change the tires/rims in the pits. You can buy a pair of stock 16" rims on eBay for cheap.

EDIT: Each tire colists the revs per mile for each tire, so you can use that # with the SCT.

Got the tuner, when u go to that option it says the tire revs per mile but doesn't say how to calculate it? So I guess I'll just worry about that when the time comes. Thanx again!
