Default Longevity with S/C?

Just curious if I were to have a S/C installed how much will it effect the longevity of the car? If I put one in, I don't plan on racing, it's just for that little "umph" that you need once in a while.

It all matters what supercharger/turbocharger u get and when they produce power. If u get a turbo or supercharger that produces power only above 2.5k rpm and u do all or most of ur daily driving below 2.5k rpm, then the car will last as long as it did w/o the f/i. But if u geta f/iunit that produces power that will interfere withdaily driving, it matters how much psi urrunning and if it has an intercooler. At 5-8psiurcar will probablya little less(5k miles is my guess)as longas it did w/o the f/i(if u have a good exhaust,at least hi-flow muffler, duals r better and headers even more)b/c 5-8psi isabout what u'd get doing full bolt-ons and it will be fine as long as u follow a good maintenence precedure. Not sure about high psi though. Good Luck on whatever u choose!

Probably not a lot. Most SC systems have a bypass valve. So you're boost doesn't kick in until you're over 2000 RPM. So most of the time you're not putting boost into the engine. I'm more intrerested in how long does a SC last on a car? The main parts, plus the belts, etc. I'd SC my stang if I knew I could get 200k with mild driving.

200k's hard on a regular car! Not sure about the longevity of the charger but vortech sells a 3yr/36k mile warranty extra with their chargers if u want that.

Yeah but what people dont realize is that you shell out the extra cash for a warranty on a SC or Turbo, and all that actually covers is the SC or Turbo, not the car, not the collateral damage either from a malfunction, just the unit.

Yeah, but how many people actually blow their engine with centrifugal superchargers running 5psi? I don't think many, so if u don't drive like a jackass the engine will be fine.

Oh yeah no doubt, turbo either, your fine, my point only was dont buy the warranty under the impression it will cover collateral damages. And there is no reason not to get 200k out of the car with a reasonable amount of boost and conservative driving habits. Its all about maintenence and cleanliness.

it depends soley on your tune

a properly tuned 10 psi intercooled setup will last longer then a bolt on car with an excessivly lean tune, just as long as your car doesnt detonate your good

actually vortech now offers an optional 3 yr/36k mile powertrain warranty if you get a complete system installed and tuned by a certified dealer. I can find no info on price tho so its probably rediculous.
