Default Jinxed!

All the talk about not havingexhuast problemshas jinxed me.

Yesterday, I went to the store and when I came back to the car,I had to get something from the trunk. I usually put my keys in my pocket, not yesterday.....I laid them down in the trunk like an idiot and closed it. Luckily, I had my cell phone with me. I called my neighbor who has a key to my house. She got the spare key to the Mustang and brought it to me. Good thing I was only 5 miles away.

THEN, I left the shopping center crossing the intersection (slow) and I heard this SCRAPE......SCRAPE......I knew EXACTLY what it was! I turned at the very next street, cut the car off and looked under to see that my mid pipe had slipped off! I called my husband who was on his way home. He had a couple of coat hangers and Jerry-rigged them so that the pipe wouldn't fall out.
Now tomorrow, I have to call the shop and tell them they need to fix it. I don't know if the clamp expanded or if the section needs a tack-weld. What do you guys think? I keep thinking how lucky I was not to have that mid pipe hit a pot hole......that would have made the whole rear end push up or if that had happened going down a crowded interstate.
Let's just say, yesterday didn't start out so great!

I would guess that your clamp wasnt tightened properly and worked its way loose with the heating and cooling of the pipes. I wouldnt stop with just a tack either, I would full out weld all the pipes If you plan on keeping your current setup. Good luck

I asked the same question when they were put on......why weren't they welded? I guess they figured if I ever wanted to go back to stock or if something had to be worked on. They could of at least asked.
Wickerbill I'll tell them I want them welded for safety reasons as well as preventative measures of any possible exhaust leak.

That stinks. I thought you shouldn't weld them due to you can't work on the tranny or anything without cutting the exhaust?

Is there another way around it?
I really don't want to risk it slipping out again. What really sucks is I know in the near future I may replace the driveshaft with an aluminum one.

If the pipes are fitted on properly, they shouldn't slip out. I noticed when putting on muffler I felt like it was fitted on, but after looking underneath it was only one by like a half an inch. It should have at least a couple of inches over fit and the clamp should be locked on pretty good. Remember factory comes with clamps, it just needs to be on there tighter.
