Thanks for the comments. You know, as I think about it I had a Ford F150 several years ago. During the factory warrant period I had duals installed. My transmission went out several months after the duals were installed and there were no questions by Ford. The covered the transmission w/o blinking.
Was your F-150 manual or automatic?

I went to a local muffler shop today and they talked about cutting into the pipethat goes to the single exhaust. This cut would be about 2 feet in front of the axle and they would add a pipethat would go up and over the axle to the muffler. I know this isn't true duals. Would I experience any performance problems with this setup? Would this setup have a major impact on the sound? The sound is what I'm really seeking.
I have heard that the cutting into and adding the other side does not do anything
for you except cosmetic. This is supported by the fact that the original muffler
gets hot as normal but the added muffler stays cool to the touch.
True duals is what you need for it to work correctly and see any added benifits.
Also it sounds the same as the stock set-up you are trying to get away from.

Thanks for all the responses. I think I'm convinced to go with true duals and not worry about the extended warranty. On another note, I read in a post where someone talked about the bumper cover melting (the side that had to be cut out) and now I'm concerned about that. Will it really melt or was this just a joke?

If you position your muffler tip too close to your bumper, yes it will melt. The bumper is made out of plastic. As long as you leave some clearance you should be good to go. I had mine installed back in July and haven't had any problems with that.

The bumper covers that come with the Ford V6 Dual Exhaust Kit, is something I asked about. I'm not too thrilled about drilling holes into the bumper to secure the cover.....but then again, if it's not too ridiculously expensive, I may get them as a precautionary measure.
