how much hp?

RE: how much hp?
well any car with built everything can make tons of power....heck, i have seen a few civics making 500 to the ground. I have no doubt that any car can make 1000rwhp, it will just cost a TON

the number will rise with the amount of cashola you have. Rygen was making over 500whp i beleive, and he was on the stock rods, which were the failure. If you went with a fully built block with the right forced induction, along with a tranny to handle it (you have pretty much no options with a manual right now, but there are a few auto options) you could see real high numbers and really quick et's, but why spend that much cash? Take into consideration that all of the guys that originally went this direction (make as much power out of the 4.0 as they could) are now swapping to 5.4's or the like.

8cd is spot on with his assesment. (besides the comment Fazm corrected about the manual trans!)
At some point it is just cost prohibitive to continue down that path and it becomes easier to work with a bigger CI engine.
If I had to do it all over again with this car, I probably would have run the turbo at 13 lbs and run high 11's. The car is capable (in my opinion, and others that know these cars) of running this very consistently and reliably for an extended period of time.
I would have then bought a second car to do the crazy ET goals I have and keep the 4.0 as a fun street/strip/cruise type vehicle.

If you mean reliable street horsepower, I imagine around 500 is pushing the limit.
But with enough money and no need for longevity, engines can make a LOT of horsepower. There was a 2.0 liter Ford Focus-engined drag racer back in '02 putting out 1200 hp! Probably wouldnt' work as a daily driver though...
