According to Crutchfield, the speakers are 6x8.

RE: Shaker 500 upper door speakers
depends on year i have and 06 i got 4in speakers in the front with a tweeter with my shaker i put in some ma audio speakers and they sound great when u take the door off it looks like a 5x7(6x8) speaker but once u take the small grill off its a 4 in speaker with a tweater replace the speaker and tweeter and u wont be happier plus the back speaker on the 500 are not amped, if u want the best sound with out changeing ur head uint replace all 4 speakers, and put a aftermarket amp to them, add some bass and ull be happy, i do this for a living so if u guys got any more questions feel free to pm me

All I know Is- I've got a 2007 v6 with a shaker 500 andInfinitys 6X8 6822cf's fit perfectly, work perfectly and sound very good with the Shaker Head unit. The two in the top door panel and the two in the rear deck. All I had to do was bend a tab down and they fit right in. I also dynamatted the rear deck and door panels. Total costof system now is about $1500, including the JL amp and 12" sub (installed), I did the doors my self. I'm not quite ready to spend the big bucks for a entire system revamp, yet.To make it worthmy time and effort, It'll be at *least* $1500 or more. Maybe a touchscreen, definately a 4 channel amp, heavy duty soundproofing and rewiring.

RE: Shaker 500 upper door speakers
That's funny cause I was reading from other threads that a lot of people have installed Infinty 6812cf's and had good results, but when looking at Crutchfield web site they don't list 6812cf as compatible with the Mustang, they recommend 6822cf which seems to be identical but 2 ohms impedannce vs 4 ohms. What is the impedance of stock speakers ?
Also, looking at my front speakers, they seem to have a 5-1/4 plus a tweeter mounted side by side in the 6"x8" frame, is there any benefit from staying with a component setup (5-1/4 + tweeter) rather than going to a 2way 6"x8". I would thing a 6"x8" would be better but what do you guys think?

They are 6x8's (5x7's also fit) and the Infinity6822cf's sound great. Yes, you can just replace the top speakers and keep you stock head deck, replacing the bottom ones is probably not worth it without doing the enitre system. Just keep your head deck, replace the top door and rear deck speakers with the Infinitys and put a sub in the trunk. The JL slash series amps can tie right in to the stock system and sound awesome.
