Default Shaker 500 upper door speakers

Does anyone know what size they are? Mine have sounded like crap since I bought the car ( I think they blew when I bought it) and I just wanted to know the size without taking the door apart. Also, any speaker recommendations would be appreciated?

If your car is still under warranty, take it back to the dealer.

They are 5X7's. I was thinking of putting in JL Audio in mine but there are tons of cheaper choices from just about every manufacturer. Same in the back BTW.

the upper front door speakers are the same as the rear? i thought the rear was 6x9.. plus they sound so much better than the front... why is that?

They are 6x8's (5x7's also fit) and the Infinity6822cf's sound great. Yes, you can just replace the top speakers and keep you stock head deck, replacing the bottom ones is probably not worth it without doing the enitre system. Just keep your head deck, replace the top door and rear deck speakers with the Infinitys and put a sub in the trunk. The JL slash series amps can tie right in to the stock system and sound awesome.

Sorry to tell you guys though, I have the shaker 500 system in mine and the rear deck speakers are 4x6's. I know because I took them completely out of my car and used the speaker wires that plugged to them for my line feed to a converter. As for the door speakers I dont know, never been into them. I just added 2 12" L7 Kicker Solo's in the trunk and removed the deck speakers, dont want anything but the bass coming from the rear for proper sound balance. The system absolutely rocks now with perfect sound staging.

4x6's?? Huh?? Like I posted in another thread: it's been three years since the S197's been out and there is still confusion about speakers sizes..lol

By the way the speakers in the front doors and rear deck are 6x8's, I know because I replaced all four of my speakers myself and I sold them. Now I know you can fit 5x7's for sure but I don't know about 6x9's. I have heard about some people fitting 6x9's in the rear deck because there is more space but I seriously doubt they would fit in the doors (had a little bit of trouble fitting my 6x8's, 5x7's prob. better fit). But definitely they are not 4x6's, regardless of if you have a basic system, Shaker 500, or Shaker 1000 (which I had but replaced everything).

This should put an end to the discussion on what sizes the speakers are...
Here is a pic of mine that I sold on ebay. I pulled out the shaker 500 head and speakers out when i bought the car and installed jl speakers and subs, with panasonic head
all are the same size... and are garbage with small magnets...

no those woofers in the door are some weird ohm ...you would have to replace the stock amps if you change the ohms of those speakers...

best thing you can do , is take all of the shaker crap out...its ok if youre not serious about the sound of your music, but if you want a really great sound take all speakers out, replace head, add dual amps and woofers in trunk and new woofers in doors...then it will really rock!
