I think one of the most important factors in mpg is acceleration. I like to punch it every once in a while, but most of the time, I accel really slowly and smoothly to put less wear on the engine, transmission, etc. and to save mileage. Everyone accelerates heavy from the red light, not just folks with cool cars like us. (soccer moms seem to be the worst)
a HUGE +1.....moms in suv's seem to accelerate fast much more than i do!!

I get around 25-30mpg average at around 70-73. Stock rearend and gears, everything else having to do with performance can be seen in my sig.

Hey Doug, you're right in the area of mileage figures you should be with your lead foot. Slow down a little and you'll see the figures go up. I have 1005 rwhp in my 07 V6 with many mods and a 4.10 rearend. I get about 29 miles per gallon with speeds around 75 mph. Take care, Jack.
Jack, you're gonna have to post up a dyno sheet to support that claim, otherwiseflaming will ensue. That's a HUGE number...

slow down for better mpg. i bought mine in OH and got 28mpg driving my stang home to NY at 65-70mph. now i average low 20s but only cause i drive it harder. YEAHAAAA. not too bad considering my 96 ranger winter beater only gets 20mpg and its a 4banger.

due to the s197 mustangs non aerodynamic design it tends to get very poor gas mileage when going 65+

I know, it sucks, I'm only getting about 22mpg myself! I think that it used to do a little better before I started modding.

I have to agree about aero. I get about 25 on back roads up and down big hills going to. Leaving work with cruise control set I only get about 22. Been watching the numbers for about 2 months now.

i drove across country last year (upstate NY to San Fransico) and averaged 28ish mpg doing 75-80mph most of the way. but it was pure highway, stopping only to fill the tank/restroom/snacks at the same time
