ORIGINAL: my first mustang

Last week on a trip from Va.to NY. I went 356 miles and used 13.302 gals. of gas(26.76mpg)at 75 mph.Last summer from Alabama to NY. I went 406 miles and used 13.953 gals of gas(29.09mpg) at 75 mph but temps. were much warmer.I use a vmptuning 93 mileage tune on the highway. GET A MILEAGE TUNE!!!
What's a Mileage Tune? When I get a CAI and Tune I can request that? I certainly don't want to get bad mileage just because of new mods.

Hey Doug, you're right in the area of mileage figures you should be with your lead foot. Slow down a little and you'll see the figures go up. I have 1005 rwhp in my 07 V6 with many mods and a 4.10 rearend. I get about 29 miles per gallon with speeds around 75 mph. Take care, Jack.
Jack, you're gonna have to post up a dyno sheet to support that claim, otherwiseflaming will ensue. That's a HUGE number...
Was the car on a flat bed??
No flaming, just goofin'.

Justin at VMP does an 87 octane "mileage tune" that feels like stock but gets 2-3 mpg better than you were getting on other tunes. I tried it and it works, but it also damages the psyche when you push the go pedal and it wont go...it feels very slow and restratined but smooth (couse its a Justin tune). Its a great winter driving tune and "wife driving" tune. BTW 275 mile trip yesterday, got 25.9 mpg at 80mph...using VMP 91 perf tune.

Afixer installed or helped install his own and helped three others with their install (myself included). I suggest going to the Explorer Express website and downloading the pdf install manual. Color pics and step-by-step instructions will help you decide real quick if you can do it on your own.

HAHA no I think that was with a tail wind of about 200 MPH.

Seriously dude your going to have to post up a dyno sheet or something for that claim.

Please forgive the necropost, I know this thread is over a month old, but it was the newest one I could find. I also didn't see a need to make a new thread asking the same question again.

I just bought my mustang and have a little over 600 miles on it, and I'm getting around 16MPG on mostly highway driving. So I had some questions:

Quick Car/Usage Specs
It's a completely stock 2008 V6 Automatic, and I average about 60-70 MPH on the highway. I am not relying on a milage gauge as I do not have one, I have been doing my math by dividing miles traveled by gallons needed to refuel to full. There's not much stomping of the gas pedal and extremely few red-light stops.

It's my first new car, so some questions could be really stupid.

1) I know there's a breaking in period, but how long do I have to wait before I start seeing real improvement? People saying they're getting 22, 25, and 27 MPGs, even when flooring it, has me really envious.

2) My sales rep mentioned that they had to replace the battery when the car came in (transferred from another dealership). I was reading some threads and saw that a battery, unable to hold a charge, was mentioned as a potential problem. If it is, can I or the dealership test for that without buying a battery outright and driving for another week?

Thanks

Wow 16 on the highway, I get 18 in the city and 28 on the highway. I have not tried the mileage tune on the highway yet, but I will in about a week, I am hoping for some gains.

There is probably something wrong with your car, I got 25+ on the highway when I was first breaking the car in. It only got about 2-3 mpg better after break-in.
