Default Retuning in cold weather problem & questions.

Hi everyone,
It's been very cold here, below zero the past few nights.
My car is garaged, but my garage is not very tight.
I wanted to make a few minor adjustments on my tune today.
I got the job done, but it took 3 attempts.
First try-erasing of module failed.
Second try-erasing of module passed(i think), but downloading failed.
At this point I tried starting her. NOTHING. I started to sweat & pray.
My third attempt was successful and my changes to the tune took.
I have a couple questions for you guys.

I keep my XCAL 2 inside of course, but could the extreme cold weather cause re-tune problems?

Also, is there a battery inside the xcal 2? Can the xcal 2 lose it's tunes just sitting in a desk drawer for a long time?

Thanks in advance for your input!
