Default V6 reliabilty question...

I know I'm going to sound like a newb, but here goes... I don't own a V6 Mustang yet, but I'm 99.9% sure that that's the car I want to purchase next. However, because I've driven Japanese cars most of my life and have never experienced even a hint of engine or mechanical problemswhile drivingthem, I'm slightly hesitantbecause I've heard varying reports about the reliabilty of the V6 engine. Many who I've talked to say it's great, but others have saidit's only averageor belowaverage in terms ofdependability. I'm just wondering what others here have to say about it. How dependable has the car been for you? Would you rate it as a reliable car that will still be driving soundly ten yearsfrom now?

Sorry if this seems like a dumb question, and I'm sure this issue has been discussed here previously, but the dependabilty question is probably the only thing keeping me from buying the car now. Any help wouldbe much appreciated. Thanks...

JD Powers reported the 2007 Mustang as the best in midsize sports car in *initial* reliability.
I'm sure more long-term owners will chime in soon.

I've heard nothing but good things.
It's why I bought one.

If you don't mind me asking, how old is yours? How many miles have you put on it so far? Thanks...

There are people on this forum with over 100,000 miles .. that's with a 2005 car.
They basically put a truck engine in our car.. if taken care of.. it will last a very long time.

The fit and finish on these cars is great for the price... and definitely feels like a more expensive car, imho.

Just some info..

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Cologne_V6_engine

"A version of the SOHC engine as used in the Land Rover LR3 and is good for 216 horsepower (161 kW) and 269 ft·lbf (365 N·m)f of torque at 3000 rpm.

Ford Ranger/Mazda B-Series
Ford Explorer
2005-2007 Ford Mustang

It safe to say that the 4.0 is tough. Better made than the old 3.8.
I can't think of anyone having problems with those engines.
They also take the punishment of force induction very well.

Thanks for the input... Funny, but I've also done research by reading Wikipedia entries too. In fact, I know I've read that exact article before, but didn't make the connectionto the current V6s.

My stepdad has a ranger with the 4.0 in it with 280xxxand it still runs great.
My father has a Ranger Splash with the 4.0 in it with 328xxx and it runs like a top.
do the regular maintenance and it is a great long lasting engine

I agree with the positive comments. I haven't heard of any troubles and haven't had any. Ford, GM and Chrysler are all going to suffer from an old reputation, and from being outdone by the Asian cars for the past 25 years, but they are all working hard to be competitive. Although GM is currently #1 in sales in the US,followed by Toyota, and then Ford, I think the Ford vehicles produced in the past three years will prove to be extremely reliable in the long run. I am excited about the great things happening with the US manufacturers and I am happy to own two Fords. I just hope they can quit closing plants.
