27.8, 28.9- Do K&N filters help gas mileage?

I went on a 250 mile trip to visit my parents. A week before I went down to see them I got an oil change (went from Mobil 5000 to Mobil 1). I also had my tires rotated. Right before I left I filled up on unleaded and reset everything (avg MPG, avg MPH, etc). The four hour drive averaged me at 27.8 mpg with 1/3 a tank of gas remaining. While down there, I switched the stock air filter to a K&N.I then filled up on unleaded gasoline again and reset everything. Thedrive back took mea bitlonger due to unforseen traffic conditions, yet I still managed 28.9 mpg with just under half a tank remaining. I think it is very likely that the filter contributed to this slight increase, despite the delays I encountered on this trip back. I think also that, had the conditions been the same as they had been when I made the trip down to my parents', gas mileage would very likely have been even better.

I must also note that that I took a short drive around town going pretty much nothing but 70 mph. Again, I reset my car's averages and got 35.5 mpg during that brief drive. I thought that was kinda cool, but of course once I got back into the streets and the stoplights it went down.

Just a little testimony that seems to indicate that the K&N filter can indeed imrove your gas mileage.

YES! Well, at least when I had my drop-in K&N air filter I experienced a consistent +1 mpg. Btw, nice new sig pic....

+1 mpg is what I got on the second trip. So that makes sense.

And thanks! Nice to see my car's twin sister! :D

If you look at KN flow charts, it will help very little if you are comparing it to a new paper (stock) filter. New paper is almost as good. It is only when the paper element begins to be dirty will you see improvements on the KN. It stays open where the paper goes downhill from there. So, NO and YES.
