I may be totally wrong but if ford wants to be competitive I would think that they could raise the hp up a bit without raising the price much or at all. I mean how much can a little tweaking here and there for 40 or 50 hp actually cost them per car . I would think that for what they charge they would still make out great and maybe even better than usual because the v6 would would sell better.

you'd be surprised. Remember, these cars have to pass very strict emissions and safety standards. Your average bolt on v6 (like mine for example) would not pass a strict emissions check, and im probably only making around 200whp. Ford, GM, all of them have to deal with all of these strict standards. To actually increase the output of the 4.0 to say, 250hp while still being able to pass emissions, you'd need to work on the heads, different cams, VERY likely a bump in compression, maybe some alterations to the rotating assembly, if not a bump in displacement, and with the bump in compression you'd see the need to run 91-93, which would be a con for alot of people when looking to buy the car. The aftermarket doesn't have to deal with all that crap fortunately.
