Default how does a 3.5L have more HP than a 4L?

I don't understand how our 4L V6's only make 210HP when ther are alot of 3.5's that make way more?
Is it some kind of ratio stuff or what? And why wouldn't Ford use the same technique to get like 260HP out of the 4L

there are 2.2s that make as much HP as the GTs 4.6.....there are no rules that state a smaller engine cant make more HP...its all in the engineering involved

There are many variables in an engine design.... number of valves, compression ratio, variable valve timing, etc. All these things determine how much power you can make in an engine. It's not just about displacement.

In which Ford (if any) is the 3.5 engine used currently, and does it offer more HP?

As far as I know the 3.5 L engine has about 260-265 hp and 240-260 ft/lbs tq. It is used in the following

Ford Edge
Ford Taurus (Which gets better gas mileage than our cars with more power, room and comfort...weird)
Lincoln MKX
Lincoln MKZ

It may be put in the 2009 Fusion, still debatable. It is Ford's new exceptionally well-designed V6. It is DOHC. Ours is SOHC, and ours is a bit older technology. Also note that the 3.5L is in cars that debut around 25K as with Toyota Camry, Honda Accord and such with 3.5L engines making 260ish they cost about 25k. Our car costs 19995 in base form, so we get a little older technology engine, but an engine that responds fairly well to mods. Justin at VMP tuning has a package of GT muffler, Tune, and CAI for $600 that nets 25 rwhp (dyno and reputation to back it up). Consider that puts our motor at say 250 hp at the crank, so very competitive with these other offerings with much nicer skin around it.

The next generation mustang will probably get the 3.5L or some other variant, it will also be used in the F-150 and maybe next gen explorer.

That's interesting about the 3.5 motor. Pretty impressive.
I'm happy with the 4.0 SOHC. I'm not saying that the 3.5 motor is not up to par, but the 4.0 is tried and true, isn't it?

Anyone happen to know what the torque is on the 3.5L? That figuires into the equation as well.

Hoose

Scratch that. I missed the post above that stated it. Pretty impressive.
