I haven't heard of any 4.0 reaching 500 hp (crank or at the wheels). Might be able to do it with a shot of NOS and a supercharger/turbo set-up. Can our tranny's and rear ends hold up to that kind of power (regardless of the fi system you choose).

Just completely forge your engine, get a beefy rear end and trans! You can get 500rwhp with the vortech. I believe the v6 vortech drag car gets above and beyond that. Just look it up. I think they did a thing on the supersixmotorsports engine and it got up there too. Not positive but pretty sure. Anything is possible with enough mula!!!

My understanding is a stock 4.0 engine can't handle more the 400HP crank without breaking ... it that may possibly be stretching it ...
Where'd you hear that? With a turbo a lot of stuff is possible. First off, people are seeing350rwhp+ on centri's w/14psiand some lower for DD cars. And that350rwhp would convert to over 400crank hp about 420crank on an auto and more on a manual and that's not even with full hp bolt-ons, heads, or cams. And Fazm is running over 400rwhp on pump gas at 12psi on the turbo which issafe for DD andthat converted to crank hp wouldbe470hp and if you want to see higher rwhp #'s, dyno jets show generally 5%~ higher ratings than mustang dyno's which all these #'s came from and then your crank hp #would be even higher:
Ex: 350rwhp on mustang dyno= 368rwhp on dynojet and 368rwhp converted to crank=460hp on an auto.
Auto transmissions are rated at 550torque so they'll hold up pretty good, but the manual transmissions break easy, I forgot how low their rated, but it's not that high.
And if your looking for anything over 320rwhp I would suggest getting an 8.8" rear end or a true track for the 7.7' rear (t-lok's have been known to brake beyond 300rwhp on launches over 2-2.5k rpm with this kind of power).

Thegeneral ruleforrwhp converting to crank is a 15% drivetrain lossfor manual cars and a 20% loss for automatic cars. And as you can see, 500crank hp is possible on a dyno jet and possibleon a mustang dyno with f/i and probably a P&P heads job and a good cam.

Other than that, you should be good. And dyno in 3rd gear unless your getting an aluminum driveshaft, stocker have been known to break dynoing in 4th.

To theop, average #'s from each kit w/an automatic transmission and dyno tune

X-charger hi-po stock pulley-270rwhp
x-charger hi-po w/2.8" pulley(9/10psi?)-280-rwhp
vortech regular kit w/8.6/9psi pulley -270-280rwhp
vortech intercooled10psi-305-320rwhp
Vortech intercooled 12psi-320-340rwhp
vortech intercooled 14psi-340-360rwhp

All these #'s are with no corresponding mods or just a hi-flow muffler/dual system(10-20rwhp tops, 20rwhp unlikely).

Paul's High Performance V6 car is pretty cool. Totally stripped out interior, full on race car running dual power adders Vortech w/ Nitrous. That is a totally dedicated shop-owned track car.

Edit: Also there have been a couple cars I can think of that went well over 500 hp at the crank (just to note: talking about crank hp makes absolutely no sense to me).

I'm probably buying a supercharger in the next couple days------Which one????
just give me your opinion as to which unit you would buy & it will really help.
X charger 3800.00 installs on top of engine(no tuner but I already have one)
vortech 3300.00 installs in front part of engine (has tuner included)
Which is easier to install, which is more dependable & which give the most gains in power? THANK YOU for any help/advice, I appreciate it.[/align]
Do you have a link for the xcharger at $3800.00? The cheapest I've seen is $3,995.00, I must be looking on the wrong site.

The cali kit without the tuner is 3795.00. You do have to either buy the tunes for $150 or get a custom tune.

I am going for 400+ on the crank. I will hopefully have the results on Friday. For those wondering why I chose 14.7psi, I chose that because that is the pressure of the atmosphere at sea level. Double the pressure, double the power.

400hp at the crank is definitely not something you should attempt with any of the kits that come out of the box. A few things that should be done include:
-fuel pump upgrade
-bypass valve upgrade
-shimmed valves (probably needed, but who wants to take a risk right?)
-cooling upgrade (Vortech, Procharger, and X. The base PH turbo has a good cooling system. The Procharger is the only one with a good upgrade available. The Vortech and the X would require you to go the extra mile. I would not put my faith in Vortech's cooler, or the soon to be released X cooler. The easiest fix would be to spray meth along with the cooler with either of those. The better solution would be to fabricate an air-air system with a really good intercooler.)

Yeah for my vortech i upgraded to an 03 04 cobra heatexchanger, but it is about twice the size of that. I mean this thing is huge. When the weather is nicer I will take some new pics of my car. I don't have anygood backgrounds tho, hey I am not professional. I should just go to the beach and do it.
