Question, did the '06 Pony Package come with 17" rims? The '07 does and for the '08s you have an 18" rim option.

I love my V6 and didn't want a GT. The V6 has more then enough power for me and getting a reflash makes it even better(especially on automatics). I'm not an easy driver and I get 18-20 mpg around town and 27-29 highway mileage. Best tank was 406 miles on 13.953 gals. of gas. Pretty good if you ask me. This car cost me less then $20,000 and when your retired every cent counts. Plus modding this car is a lot of fun with so much good stuff available. This car reminds me of my old Roadrunners. You can't go wrong

I have a 2006 PP coupe, with the 4.0L/5spd, and I have no regrets. I bought it used locally with 10K miles (pre-depreciated!), and it's been alot of fun modding it. Keeping it naturally aspirated, my best times last year were 14.4's. I know that's not incredibly quick, but it's pretty good in comparison to older Muscle Cars. This car fits my wants/needs perfectly. It may become my son's DD, so I didn't want him driving a GT. And a nice feature with the SCT xcal2 handheld tuner is you can set a maximum top speed to keep a young driver outa trouble.
To the OP, you need to determine what your wants/needs are. Some folks who bought the V6 have later opted for a GT, either cuz the V6 didn't fit their wants/needs, or their wants/needs changed. The GT costs more, but offers better performance. If you think that theadd'l kick in the pants is worth the add'l dollars, then you should consider a GT (life is too short to have regrets). But the 4.0L V6 S197 Mustang is a great value.
Also, my wife has a 2005 non-PP 4.0L/auto vert, and my PP coupe DOES handle better (and both car have 17" Pirellis). As such, I recommend the Pony Pkg. Even if you plan to put on aftermarket wheels, you can sell the 17" wheels to help offset the cost of the new wheels/tires.

(BTW, first mod has to be a sunroof- still can't figure our why Ford doesn't offer it)

When I was car shopping, it was a solid $7-8K difference between the V6 and the GT with the same option packages and I didn't want a used car. That was just more than I was willing to spendat the time so I opted for the V6 PP.I called it "The Mustang for all the people that wanted a GT but just couldn't lay the coin out for it." Now I wouldn't trade it for a GT if someone handed me the opportunity because I'm totally attached to my car and there's nothing that I need from it that it doesn't give me performance-wise and appearance-wise. With the appearance mods I've added it's definitely more show than go now but I'm ok with that....and if I think I need more 'go' there's plenty of mods I can have installed down the road.

Well fuel economy, I read on consumer reports 14.9 for the GT. I'm getting 19.2mpg right now average speed 33mph. That looks like a big difference to me. But the poster above is saying he's getting 17 in 80% city traffic, I guess that means a lot of stop lights. The window sticker on my car said something like 19/26, now they say 17/25 or something. Insurance would cost me $400 more a year and gas I figured would run me a lot more. But to sell I dunno, my dealer told me I'd be kicking myself if I got a GT instead of this car.

One thing that gets me is why this car is governed with those tires on it. I'm probably going to take off the governor when the warranty runs out but there's barely anywhere to drive 140mph at.

Mine came with 17" rims with charcoal painted centers with the pirelli tires, imo they are the best looking bullit rims available.

Yeah I figured that before. I found one guy on here clocked his to 142 and he didn't say that he changed his drive shaft, so I guess that is just luck. I also don't know why they used a steel drive shaft, I have refurbished plenty aluminum drive shafts for trucks and this was a long time ago. of course the ends were always steel.
Also I don't know what kinds of testing this engine has gone through, seems like american manufacturers do a lot of extensive tests these days though. People on this forum say this engine is very well built and has strong parts internally.
