While I know that to improve performance you need to bring in more air and get less restrictive with the exhaust, what would be the first on the list?

Would upgrading the exhaust system be the priority?

I have noticed that my mustang seems to have a somewhat noisy ride on bumpy roads. Is this a trait that is normal for these cars? I do not feel that my shocks are bad, but it does seem loud. Any ideas or recommendations? Thanks.

1st order of business - ditch the V6 muffler (which is very restrictive). A single or dual GT take-off muffer(s) is a cheap option tthat improves performance (roughly 7rwhp) and creates a much better sound. There are other aftermarket mufflers too, but they are more costly.

Next would be a CAI & tune from any of the reputable tuners. Those two modifications alone will change the character of the car. Beyond that are gears, LSD, and many other things on the slippery slope of Mod Addiction.

It's hard to say about your road noise issue. What's loud to one person may be acceptable to another. If it sounds like something is about to fall off the car, then you'd better get it looked at.

exhaust first, cai/tune second. exhaust instantly changes the character of your car (in a good way!) regardless of how much performance you're actually getting out of it and they can be relatively inexpensive depending on what you want. once you get more cash, get a good cai with good custom tunes and your stocky stang will turn into a lil beast.

Get a sway bar under the rear of that puppy, asap.
Going fast is no good if you cant stay in control.

Do you think you have the "chuckle" upper strut mount bearings up front.
They can be quite noisy when they go bad. There is a TSB out on the subject.

I think that the "chuckle" might be the issue, good call. I will look into it this evening or tomorrow morning.

I am going to look into a GT takeoff for now, I want the Magnaflow catback setup for the car eventually.

I am looking at CAI's, I will get one in a couple of months.

I am buying GT swaybars for mine beacuse I have the bump noise you are talking about too! Sounds like a shock is loose!

+1 to that. Be careful that slope isn't just slippery it's steep too.
