Default Hurst noisy, had to go!

Well I took off the Hurst today. It developed a nasty rattle that shows up in the upper half of the rpm range. No, it wasn't the chrome handle part, I had torqued and loctited the heck out of it, and couldn't even break those loose; I broke my hex head socket trying to take it apart. The ball joint area had developed up and down free play, combine that with the engine vibes way up in the rpms, and it drove me insane. It wasn't too bad ifI put the vulcan death grip on the ball, but it was still loud. If I took my hand off, it sounded like a jack hammer. Bums me out, I really liked the look and feel of it. On the other hand, the stocker, while requiring a longer throw, feels like greased butter while shiftingcompared to the notchy Hurst. I hadn't used the stock shifter in a long time, feels light and effortless, although a lot more sloppy. I'll give it a while. I may try theHurst with the stock rubber bushings down the road and see if that helps.

Did you try either a thin gasket or lcok nuts where the lever connects to the shifter? I had the same "Hurst Rattle" and the lock nuts did the trick.

It's not at the handle/shifter joint. I used a torque wrench and loctite on those bolts, they wouldn't even budge. I broke my allen head socket trying to remove them while swapping out to the stock shifter. I had to snakeout the assembleyfrom underneath the car. I knowit rattles there, the reason I torqued it was because the handle got so loose in one day,I thought the handle was going to fall off while driving. I was going to buy some slightly longer bolts andlock nutsthe next time it worked loose. This time, the sound is coming from the "ball".I could push up on the bottom at the linkage under the car, and feel it move up and down. I don't think the poly bushings help either. They're very rigid, and transmit vibrations thestock rubber doesn't. I'll just use the stock stick until I can get the old bolts out, and find a solution to the joint free play.
