Default Tune VS Gas Milage?

Group,

I was tossing the idea around about getting the tune for my V6. If I stay with the 87perforamance tune will that improve my gas milage? What have been your experiences?

I got the mileage tunes from VMP and I think they work. Last year with a VMP 87 mileage tune, a VMP CAI and a Magnaflow muffler I got 29.1 MPG highway on my otherwise stock V6. This year with my car set up like my signature below I got 27.6 MPG highway with the 87 mileage tune. And the car runs very hard with the mileage tunes too. I think VMPs mileage tuneshave the best of both worlds, power and mileage!

Well I have always heard, that if you drive it right with a performance tune that you gain milage. I am kinda supised at the milage MY FIRST MUSTANG got because I was running stock 05 V6 and got 30 on the interstate, now I get better with dual flows but I havent measured it yet

All these testimonies about getting better gas mileage with a CAI and tune makes me want to get it done, but right now I want to wait until the warranty runs out.

Any idea about how much a VMP tune and CAI would cost?

Well I havent looked in a while but usually a package deal with the two goes between 300-400 with a few dependent factors, so it anit to cheap

Just about any questions on VMP tunes can be answered in this post:

https://mustangforums.com/m_3231444/tm.htm

I have VMP 93 performance and 87 mileage tunes. With the 93 performance tune, I average 19-22 mpg with city driving. I used the mileage tune on a 600 mile trip and averaged 27 mpg. (I do have 3.73 gears which hurt mileage.)

I typically do not drive with the mileage tune because it's too tame. The 93 performance tune is my everday driving tune.

To anybody contemplating tunes-- you cannot go wrong. Aside from nitrous, this modification had the most power per dollar out of any of my mods!

BY tune do you mean tuner? If so the VMP tuner and VMP cai goes for $479.00. The tuner comes with 3 tunes. I still think my highway mileage is pretty good for an automatic car. I also get 19-21 mpg around town no matter what tune I'm running. I always calculateit... miles run by gals.used. I don't have the computer in the dash.

Are you talking about this? If so, note that it's not actually a CAI but rather just a replacement for the airbox without a heatshield or anything, see here for more info. It seems that an actual CAI and tune run in the neighborhood of $600-650, like this one.

since my gear/posi upgrade, i've only ran the 91 torq and 91 race tunes. my best mpg on highway has been 25. the steady number has been about 24.5mpg. city+highway has been 19-20mpg. i'm gonna switch to 87 perf and see what results i get. this will be the first time using this tune since before the gears. i'll give an update.
