Default How do I launch my auto V6 S197?

alright, I'm going to be totally upfront with you guys, and i'm sure you'll all yell at me, but i think what i'm doing might be bad for the transmission? first of all, i don't know how to launch an auto. i've tried revving it in neutral and then pulling the stick down into D and it just waits until the rpms die down enough and then slowly rolls out. i kinda sorta revved it a little in N then dropped it into D with my tune installed and it gave me some tire spin. i say kinda sorta because i wasn't trying, and it didn't get very high in the rpms.

this may be super bad, please let me know if it is.. i love to roll at about 20 mph, put it in N, rev to 4k rpms (half throttle), then drop it into D (now flooring it) and take off like a screaming bat out of hell. am i going to break stuff? its so much fun! i have not noticed any difference in the tranny one bit since i started doing this crap.

oh and P.S. once i was driving at like 60 mph, like the day after i figured out this little rev in N then drop to D thing, and while trying to put it into N, i went too far and put it in R. at 60. the drivetrain locked up, tires screeched, i screamed a few four letter words and quickly put it back into D. no harm done

What your doing is called a "nuetral drop". Stop doing it. Here is how to launch. Leave your car in "D". Take your right foot and plant it on the floorboard.

Drop it intoD and hold it on the brake as you bring the revs up to around 2000. Then just release the brake and mash the throttle. You won't have any issues with wheelspin so no worries there.

Revving the crap out of it and dropping it into D only works for Rednecks.........

Dude...neutral drops are really tough on the whole drivetrain.

The beauty of an auto is just press that gas and hold it to the floor. I have found the the 6er does really well with a brake torque launch. A firm foot on the brake...when the tree starts to sink, go ahead and hit the gas with some authority. As soon as the last yellow goes out, fllor at and let your left foot up and you will slingshot out with little drama.

Yeah, when you did that 60MPH and shifted into reverse, that was not good for anything. I would really stop putting it into neutral and jamming it into gear, your tranny will not last long doing that, that is way worse then "poping" the clutch on a standard. Best thing to do is, hold the brake, rev it up to 3 or 4,000 rpm, then when the lights go green, hammer on the gas,you will hook up pretty decent and take off good, and not nearly as hard on the tranny.
